</hdr>

[Yerevan Radio Yerevan Network in Armenian 1300 GMT 22 Mar 92]

[Text] The 2,000-strong Russian community in Nagorno-Karabakh
has appealed to the Russian leadership to protect the region's
Russian-speaking population and help the Nagorno-Karabakh
Republic's international recognition.

The appeal notes that along with the Armenians and
Azerbaijanis, the Russian-speaking population is sustaining
losses and suffering. For example, [words indistinct] Meli
Mrove, deputy chief doctor of the Stepanakert emergency aid
hospital, was killed. Military Prosecutory Igor Plazasin and his
aide Aleksandr Goronskov were seriously injured during fierce
shelling of Stepanakert.

There are still Russian villages in Nagorno-Karabakh even
under these conditions, but there will be no more room for
Russians in villages that are under Azerbaijani jurisdiction.

The Russian community also declared that the (?military)
operations launched by the Azerbaijani Army against the
Armenians prevent the Russian Orthodox Church from resuming its
activities in Nagorno-Karabakh.
